A professionally facilitated creative workshop designed specifically for older adults to maintain brain health.
Did you know that there are things we can do to prevent cognitive decline as we age? The number one thing is regular exercise, but the next best thing we can do is participate in activities that simultaneously engage multiple cognitive domains. Yes, our brain abides by the 'use it or lose it' principle, so we want to use as much of it as we can for as long as we can.
Extensive research has shown that multi-domain interventions that combine cognitive challenges, emotional engagement, sensory stimulation, and social interaction, are the most effective at protecting brain health as we age. Art is certainly one of these multi-domain activities that simultaneously targets brain systems involved in memory, executive functioning, visual-spatial processing, fine motor coordination, emotional regulation, language, and social cognition.
The Creative Brain Health Program is a professionally facilitated art workshop designed specifically for older adults to maintain brain health, using evidence-based psychological principles. Each 60 - 90 minute session is delivered in a gentle manner that easily adapts to varying cognitive and physical abilities. The creative sessions can be delivered as a one-time workshop, a 4-week series, or a 12-week brain health series, and are ideal for groups of approximately 10 residents, depending on ability level. Residents do not need any prior art experience, and all materials will be provided.
